Humility: An Ever Decreasing Self, An Ever Increasing Christ | 2:00PM

Workshop led by Margaret Ashmore

Scripture tells us to “watch over the heart with all diligence for from it flows the springs of life.” (Proverbs 4:23) The objective for the counselor is to keep always the heart as the principle reason people are experiencing troubles in life rather than the worldly counseling mode of Freud’s “ethic of non-responsibility.” When once the heart is humbled it becomes the clear spring of eternal truth refreshing and reviving the spirit of man.

Does the counselee blame any and everything for his troubles? Is his focus on what others need to do for change? Does anger and a claiming of rights dominate his thinking? Is his basic orientation regarding others “you owe me”? Then pride is the problem, not anything external. And humbling oneself in light of God’s glory and mercy whereby freedom is obtained for the tyranny of

The Implications of Misplaced Identity| 2:00PM

Workshop led by Lee Lewis

Seeing who we are in light of Christ's atoning work on the Cross is vital when it comes to maturing in Christ. Biblical counselling ministry presses into these implications early and often.  This workshop seeks to look at the individual and corporate implications of knowing Christ and who we are in Him.

Recognizing and Responding to Domestic Abuse | 2:00PM

Workshop led by Greg Wilson

This workshop will help participants learn to recognize abuse in marriages, including definitions, abusive behaviors, the cycle of abuse, and the impact of abuse. The workshop will also cover the essentials of how churches and Christian counselors can respond to domestic abuse, including policies and protocols for abuse prevention and for working with both victims and perpetrators.

Working with a Person's Story in Christian Counseling | 2:00PM

Workshop led by Eric Johnson

Christianity has always been a kind of narrative therapy. God’s story of salvation, revealed in the Bible, provides the ideal narrative context to help people make sense of their lives and reinterpret their own stories, so that more and more they come to collaborate with God by faith on the writing of the rest of the story, as a dependent co-author.

Workshop Block 2

* Note: Select only 1 Workshop per block upon registration.

Gospel-Centered Relationships | 3:45PM

Workshop led by Mike Sharrett

This workshop explores seven Biblical principles apart from which relationships simply won't work the way God designed them to. Using marriage as a framework, learn what makes relationships safe, why weakness produces vitality, and why you'll never be happily married to anyone until you are first happily married to Jesus.

Adolescents: Who Are They and How Do We Counsel Them | 3:45PM

Workshop led by Tim Watson

Aliens, sorry, I mean adolescents are a strange bunch. Do a brief investigation to try and understand them, and you will find many different definitions and explanations of what this stage of life entails. Look to Hollywood, and you’ll find a view of adolescence that is nothing more than a house party and kids being kids. As counselors, pastors and lay-leaders, it’s vital we have an accurate understanding of this stage of life to better come alongside them as they attempt to navigate the many biological and cultural changes that are occurring in their lives. In this breakout session we will examine the following:

  • Adolescence and the image of God in man
  • Understanding the reality of today’s teens
  • Explore ways to help teens navigate their reality

Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and the Gospel | 3:45PM

Workshop led by Rachael Rosser

This workshop will help identify the differences between Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, as well as the differences between secular and biblical approaches to treatment for Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. As a group, we will have the opportunity to work through a case study in which we apply the gospel to the treatment of Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Implementing Equipped To Counsel in the Local Church | 3:45PM

Workshop led by Greg Cook

This workshop is designed for those who want to explore training resources for equipping the saints to do the work of biblical counseling. We will look specifically at the material ABC promotes and uses for their certification process, John Henderson’s Equipped to Counsel. Find out why this curriculum is preferred over others, and receive practical encouragement for using this in a variety of ways and for different ministry volunteers.
